Food Safety Dept Raids 16 Sweet Shops in Bengaluru, Seizes Goods Worth ₹5.9 lakh

Food safety inspectors carried out a coordinated raid on sixteen sweet‑shop units in Bengaluru, targeting establishments suspected of violating hygiene and labeling norms. The operation was overseen by the state’s Food Safety Department, which has been intensifying checks on confectionery outlets following a rise in consumer complaints.

During the sweep, officials seized a range of packaged and bulk sweet items whose combined market value was estimated at about ₹5.9 lakh. The seized stock includes traditional Indian sweets, processed confectionery, and related packaging materials that were found to be non‑compliant with safety standards.

Authorities have not disclosed the exact infractions but indicated that the raid aims to curb the sale of sub‑standard food products and protect public health. The department plans to conduct further inspections in the city and will process the confiscated goods in accordance with existing regulations.
