Heavy rains have triggered floods across Uttar Pradesh, prompting the evacuation of 17,500 people and affecting roughly 353,000 residents.

Heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused widespread flooding in several districts of Uttar Pradesh. The deluge forced authorities to relocate 17,500 residents to relief shelters, while an estimated 353,000 people are reported to be directly affected by the rising waters.

State disaster management officials, supported by the National Disaster Response Force and local police, have been conducting rescue operations using boats and high‑water vehicles. Temporary shelters have been set up in schools and community halls, where evacuees are receiving food, clean drinking water, and basic medical care.

The flooding has disrupted road connectivity, halted public transport, and inundated agricultural fields, raising concerns about crop loss ahead of the upcoming sowing season. Power supply has been intermittently cut in the most affected zones, and several villages remain isolated.

Government officials have appealed for public cooperation in avoiding non‑essential travel and have promised additional relief supplies in the coming days. Continuous monitoring of river levels and weather forecasts will guide further evacuation decisions.
