Flash floods in Nepal leave Mumbai doctor, wife and 59 pilgrims missing

Heavy monsoon rains in the remote hills of Nepal caused sudden flash floods that swept away roads and bridges, isolating a convoy of 61 Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims. The group, travelling on foot towards the sacred site, was caught in fast‑moving water that forced them to seek higher ground.
Rescue teams from Nepal’s disaster management authority, assisted by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu, have been searching the affected valleys. So far, 61 pilgrims remain unaccounted for, including a doctor from Mumbai and his wife, who were part of a larger family delegation.
Local officials said that the flood waters have receded enough to allow helicopters to hover for aerial surveys, but ground access remains difficult. Families in India have been notified and are awaiting further updates from the embassy and Nepalese authorities.
