Five youths drown during Ganesh immersion in Khanda, Madhya Pradesh; two brothers die

During the Ganesh immersion ceremony in Nahalda, Khanda, five young men fell into a 40‑foot deep pond; three were rescued while two brothers drowned.
Khanda, Madhya Pradesh – On Saturday, a tragic incident occurred during the traditional Ganesh immersion ceremony at Nahalda village. Five young men, including two brothers, slipped into a pond that is approximately 40 feet deep while attempting to submerge the idol.
Local villagers quickly responded and managed to pull three of the youths to safety using ropes and makeshift ladders. Despite their efforts, the two brothers could not be rescued and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The district administration has taken charge of the aftermath, sending the bodies for post‑mortem examination. Officials also announced a financial assistance package for the families of the deceased, as per state guidelines for accident victims.
