Five youths lost their lives while immersing Karma Puja ritual items in the Koel River in Palamu district, Jharkhand, according to local reports.
Palamu district authorities confirmed that five young men drowned on Saturday while performing the traditional immersion of Karma Puja items in the Koel River. The group, believed to be locals, entered the water as part of the concluding rites of the Hindu festival, which involves submerging ceremonial objects.
Rescue teams from the district administration and nearby police stations were dispatched promptly, but strong river currents hampered their efforts. By the time the operation was called off, all five victims had been declared dead.
