Five Sagar PDS Shops Suspended After FIR Filed Over Millions of Food Grain Misappropriation

The district administration in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, has lodged FIRs against vendors of five government fair‑price shops after a probe uncovered large discrepancies between stock records and actual food grain inventories, leading to the suspension of the shops.
The Sagar district administration initiated a surprise inspection of five government fair‑price (PDS) outlets after receiving complaints of irregularities in the distribution of subsidised food grains. Inspectors compared the physical stock with the electronic records and found a massive shortfall, indicating that millions of rupees worth of wheat, rice and other staples were missing.
Based on the findings, the administration filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against the shopkeepers and staff responsible for the alleged embezzlement. The FIRs allege criminal breach of trust and violation of the Public Distribution System regulations.
In response to the investigation, the district authority has temporarily suspended the licences of all five outlets, barring them from further sales until a thorough audit is completed. The move aims to safeguard the remaining PDS supplies and restore public confidence in the system.
The administration has also directed a separate audit team to trace the missing grains and recover the losses, while urging beneficiaries to report any further anomalies.
