Forest officials on a routine patrol in Odisha discovered five infant orangutans abandoned in the forest and have taken them into protective custody.
Forest officials conducting a scheduled patrol in a forest area of Odisha came across five infant orangutans that appeared to have been abandoned. The young primates were immediately secured by the team and handed over to wildlife authorities for further care.
Orangutans are not native to India, and their presence in the state raises questions about illegal wildlife trafficking or improper captivity. The officials have informed the state wildlife department, which will investigate the source of the animals and determine appropriate rehabilitation steps.
The rescued infants are expected to be transferred to a certified wildlife rescue centre where they can receive veterinary attention and, if possible, be reintroduced to a suitable habitat under expert supervision.
