A cemented road beneath a bridge in Indore's Gadi Aadda area collapsed, forming a hole more than five feet deep, raising concerns over the condition of older streets despite ongoing widening projects.
Indore, Madhya Pradesh – Early on Wednesday, a section of the cemented road that runs beneath a bridge in the Gadi Aadda locality gave way, leaving a crater more than five feet deep. The sudden collapse was reported by commuters and local residents who witnessed the sinkhole forming without any prior warning.
The incident comes at a time when the state government is allocating crores of rupees to widen and upgrade major arterial roads across the city. Officials, however, have been criticised for the deteriorating condition of older streets that have not received comparable attention.
Municipal authorities have cordoned off the affected area and dispatched a team of engineers to assess the damage and plan immediate repairs. No injuries have been reported so far, but traffic has been diverted to alternate routes, causing temporary congestion in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The local administration has promised a swift response, emphasizing that safety inspections of similar structures will be intensified to prevent further incidents.
