A Begusarai court sentenced five accused in a 2010 rape‑and‑murder case to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 each, after testimony from 14 witnesses.

The District Court in Begusarai delivered its verdict in a high‑profile case dating back to 2010, where a young woman was brutally raped and murdered. Five individuals found guilty of the crime were each handed a sentence of life imprisonment, the maximum custodial penalty under Indian law for such offences.

In addition to the custodial term, the court imposed a monetary penalty of ₹50,000 on each convict. The fines were ordered under the provisions that allow courts to levy monetary punishment alongside imprisonment for aggravated crimes.

The judgment was based on the evidence presented by 14 witnesses, whose testimonies formed the backbone of the prosecution’s case. The court’s decision underscores the judiciary’s continued focus on delivering stern punishment for violent crimes against women, even after many years of legal proceedings.
