Shahdol police uncovered a counterfeit‑currency operation, arresting five suspects and confiscating 1,803 fake notes worth Rs 8.71 lakh, a printer and a motorcycle.
The Khairaha police station in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, announced the bust of a counterfeit‑currency gang on Saturday. Investigators seized 1,803 forged banknotes with a total face value of Rs 8.71 lakh, along with a printing machine used to produce the fakes and a motorcycle believed to have been used for distribution.
Five individuals identified as members of the operation were taken into custody after a coordinated raid. The suspects are alleged to have printed the counterfeit notes locally and circulated them in nearby markets, posing a risk to the region's financial integrity.
Authorities have forwarded the seized material to the district magistrate and the State Crime Branch for further forensic examination. The police emphasized that they will continue monitoring the area to prevent similar illicit activities.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by law‑enforcement agencies in curbing counterfeit currency, which can undermine public confidence in the monetary system.
