Punjab police’s counter‑intelligence unit detained five suspects accused of trafficking weapons, including hand grenades, that were allegedly dropped from drones by Pakistan across the border.
Punjab’s counter‑intelligence team seized five individuals suspected of operating a cross‑border weapons smuggling module. According to police officials, the cache contained hand grenades and other arms that were dispatched from Pakistan using unmanned aerial vehicles.
The suspects were apprehended after intelligence inputs linked them to the drone‑borne delivery route along the India‑Pakistan frontier. Investigators recovered evidence pointing to coordination between the smugglers and handlers on the Pakistani side.
Police spokesperson said the operation underscores the growing threat of illicit arms being introduced via low‑tech aerial drops, especially in the run‑up to festive seasons when security concerns heighten.
The arrested persons are being held for further interrogation, and legal proceedings are expected to commence shortly.
