Street vendors in Delhi continue to display and sell firecrackers openly, despite a Supreme Court directive that calls for tighter checks and restrictions on their sale.
Delhi police observed that firecracker stalls across several market areas were openly displaying and selling the items, with no visible restrictions in place. This comes after the Supreme Court issued a directive earlier this month urging authorities to tighten monitoring and limit the availability of firecrackers ahead of the festive season.
Law enforcement officials said they are aware of the court order but cited manpower constraints and the sheer number of vendors as challenges to immediate enforcement. They have pledged to increase spot checks and seize illegal stock, while urging shop owners to comply voluntarily.
