A blaze that broke out in a car accessories store in Vasco da Gama on Sunday caused extensive damage to the popular Vasco Sunday Market, prompting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to promise state support.
A fire erupted in a car accessories shop located in Vasco da Gama, Goa, on Sunday morning, spreading to the adjoining Vasco Sunday Market. The flames quickly engulfed stalls and merchandise, leaving the market area badly damaged. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to contain the blaze after several hours, but not before significant loss of goods and structural damage was recorded.
Local authorities cordoned off the site and began assessing the extent of the damage. Market vendors reported that many of their stalls were either burnt or rendered unusable, disrupting the weekly trading activity that draws shoppers from across the region.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the affected area later in the day. He assured the affected shop owners and market traders that the state government would provide immediate relief, including financial assistance and support for reconstruction. The CM also directed relevant departments to expedite the restoration of essential services and to facilitate a swift resumption of market operations.
The incident has raised concerns about fire safety standards in commercial zones, prompting the administration to review existing protocols and consider stricter enforcement to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
