A first information report was lodged against protesters in Dausa 35 days after a power‑line worker died in a road‑jam incident, sparking anger among the Gujjar community.
Police in Dausa district registered a first information report (FIR) on Thursday against a group of demonstrators who had blocked a highway following the death of an electricity department employee. The FIR was filed 35 days after the fatal incident, which authorities say marks the first formal charge against the protesters.
The deceased worker had been killed when a vehicle collided with a power line during a traffic jam that had been organized by members of the Gujjar community to demand compensation and safety measures. The protest turned violent, leading to the loss of the employee’s life and prompting a statewide outcry.
In a community meeting held later, Gujjar leaders accused the police of succumbing to political pressure and delaying legal action. They warned that the delayed FIR could trigger renewed demonstrations unless the matter is resolved swiftly.
District officials, while confirming the FIR, said the investigation is ongoing and that any further unlawful assembly will be dealt with according to law. They appealed for calm and urged the community to pursue grievances through legal channels.
