The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India carried out 276 inspections across Jammu & Kashmir before Diwali, confiscating and destroying 800 kg of sweets that failed to meet safety standards.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) conducted 276 inspections across Jammu & Kashmir ahead of the Diwali celebrations, focusing on confectionery shops and sweet vendors.

The inspections revealed several breaches of hygiene and labeling regulations, prompting the authorities to seize and destroy 800 kg of sweets that were deemed unsafe for consumption.

The destroyed sweets were stored in a secure facility and incinerated to prevent any risk to public health during the festive season.

FSSAI officials highlighted the critical role of food safety checks during holidays and urged all vendors to comply with national food standards to protect consumers.
