The Jammu and Kashmir Food and Drug Administration carried out 198 inspections and gathered 178 milk samples from various locations across the union territory to assess quality and safety.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Jammu and Kashmir has completed a series of inspections covering 198 premises across the union territory. During these visits, officials collected a total of 178 milk samples from dairies, distribution points and retail outlets.
The drive is part of the agency’s routine surveillance programme aimed at verifying compliance with national standards for milk quality, including checks for adulteration, bacterial count and pesticide residues. Ensuring safe milk supplies is a priority for public health authorities, given the staple role of dairy in the regional diet.
Collected samples will be sent to accredited laboratories for detailed analysis. Results are expected to be compiled in a report that will be shared with the state health department and made available to the public, with any non‑compliant outlets slated for corrective action or penalties.
The FDA has reiterated its commitment to regular monitoring of food products, emphasizing that such inspections help maintain consumer confidence and protect vulnerable populations from health risks associated with contaminated milk.
