On Jan 26, the day of Janmashtami, a tragic accident occurred in Khapa village, Kurai police‑station area of Sivani district, Madhya Pradesh. A 20‑year‑old BSc student, Chetna Patle, slipped and fell into a well that was almost full of water near her home.
Witnesses say that when the girl struggled, her father immediately jumped into the well in an attempt to pull her out. Despite his effort, both were unable to escape the deep water and drowned.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police. The Sivani police team, along with a rescue squad, recovered the bodies later in the day. An investigation has been opened to determine whether safety measures around the well were adequate.
The incident has left the village in deep mourning, with neighbours gathering to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
