Farmers gathered in front of the XEN office in Mohali to demand relief from chronic electricity shortages affecting their farms.
Farmers in Mohali staged a dharna outside the Executive Engineer (Electrical) office, citing persistent power cuts that are hampering irrigation and crop production. The protest highlighted the growing electricity crisis in Punjab’s agricultural belt, where frequent load‑shedding disrupts farm operations and increases costs for diesel‑run pumps.
Organisers demanded immediate restoration of stable supply, compensation for losses incurred during outages, and a long‑term plan to upgrade the rural power grid. They also called on the state electricity department to prioritize agricultural consumers in its load‑distribution schedule.
Local authorities reported that the demonstration remained peaceful, with police monitoring the site to ensure order. Officials from the electricity department were invited to the venue but had not yet responded at the time of reporting.
