Farmers protest electricity shortage outside Lalru XEN office, warn of highway jam

A group of farmers from the Ekta Ugrahan union staged a sit‑in at the Lalru electricity department office on Wednesday, demanding relief from power cuts and cautioning that the protest could block nearby highways.
On Wednesday, farmers affiliated with the Ekta Ugrahan union gathered in front of the Lalru electricity department’s XEN office to stage a sit‑in over the region’s persistent power shortages. The protestors, many of whom rely on electricity for irrigation, carried placards demanding immediate remedial measures from the state power authority.
The demonstrators highlighted that frequent load‑shedding has hampered sowing and harvesting cycles, increasing production costs and threatening livelihoods. They called for a stable power supply and compensation for losses incurred due to erratic electricity.
Local police and district officials arrived at the scene, urging the crowd to disperse peacefully while monitoring traffic on the adjoining highway. Authorities warned that the protest could cause congestion on the nearby road network, urging commuters to seek alternate routes.
