The carcass of the well‑known Bandhavgarh tigress ‘Dotty’ was recovered and a post‑mortem indicated a natural death. Forest officials have intensified surveillance to protect her 15‑month‑old cubs.

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district reported the discovery of the dead body of the celebrated tigress known as Dotty. Officials from the forest department retrieved the carcass and sent it for a post‑mortem examination, which preliminarily concluded that the death was due to natural causes.

Dotty was a well‑documented resident of the reserve and had given birth to two cubs earlier this year. The cubs, now aged about fifteen to sixteen months, remain in the forest under the care of the mother until her demise.

Following the loss, the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department announced heightened monitoring of the two young tigers. Rangers have increased patrols, installed additional camera traps, and are closely tracking the cubs' movements to ensure their safety and prevent any potential threats.

The department reiterated its commitment to maintaining the ecological balance of the reserve and safeguarding its tiger population, especially vulnerable juveniles after the loss of a mother.

Authorities will continue to observe the cubs and update the public on their health and development as part of ongoing conservation efforts.
