A staged kidnapping incident led police to uncover a fraud scheme in which a Uttar Pradesh university was being run from a farm, exposing irregularities in admissions and finances.
Police in Uttar Pradesh arrested a group of individuals after a reported kidnapping turned out to be fabricated. During the investigation, officials discovered that the alleged victim had been lured to a farm where a fraudulent operation was being run under the guise of a university.
Further probing revealed that the farm was being used as a base to issue fake admissions, collect fees and issue illegitimate certificates. Documents and financial records recovered from the site indicated that the scheme had been active for several months, affecting a number of students who were promised legitimate degrees.
