Police in Betul district arrested a fake doctor who pretended to offer advanced maternity and C‑section services online, duping relatives of patients for money. Investigations also linked similar scams in Bhopal and Indore.
Betul district police announced the arrest of an individual posing as a qualified doctor who had been soliciting money from patients' families by promising superior maternity and C‑section care through online channels. The suspect was apprehended at the Betul District Hospital premises after a coordinated sting operation.
According to police officials, the fraudster used social media and messaging apps to approach relatives of expectant mothers, claiming access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities and guaranteed safe deliveries. He demanded substantial payments upfront, assuring faster appointments and better outcomes, but no legitimate medical services were rendered.
Further probing revealed that similar deceptive practices had been reported in Bhopal and Indore, suggesting a broader network of counterfeit medical practitioners exploiting vulnerable families across Madhya Pradesh. Authorities are now expanding the investigation to trace additional accomplices and recover the defrauded amounts.
The police have warned the public to verify the credentials of any medical professional offering online consultations and to report suspicious solicitations to local law enforcement.
