Authorities have uncovered a ₹492 crore fraud involving bogus chit‑fund companies operating in seven districts of Madhya Pradesh, affecting about 210,000 investors.

Police and financial crime investigators in Madhya Pradesh have identified a massive fraud scheme that raised approximately ₹492 crore through a network of fake chit‑fund companies operating in seven districts. The illegal entities lured investors with promises of high returns, collecting money from an estimated 210,000 individuals.

The scheme reportedly functioned by issuing false chit‑fund agreements and collecting periodic contributions, while the promoters diverted the funds for personal use. Victims were primarily small‑scale savers from rural and semi‑urban areas who were assured quick profits and guaranteed payouts.

Law enforcement has registered criminal cases against the alleged promoters and seized relevant documents. A special investigation team has been tasked with tracing the money trail, freezing bank accounts, and recovering assets to mitigate the loss suffered by the investors.

Officials have warned the public to exercise caution before investing in unregistered financial schemes and have urged anyone approached by similar chit‑fund operators to report the matter to the nearest police station.
