The former chief minister of Jharkhand hailed the recently introduced Mines Act, claiming it will bring economic benefits to the state and the country.

The newly drafted Mines Act, unveiled this week, is being promoted as a landmark reform for India's mining sector. Officials say the legislation streamlines licensing, strengthens environmental safeguards and introduces revenue‑sharing mechanisms aimed at local development.
Former Jharkhand chief minister, speaking to Construction World, asserted that the act will directly benefit Jharkhand’s mineral‑rich regions by attracting investment and creating jobs. He added that the broader national economy stands to gain from increased production and higher tax receipts.
Industry analysts note that Jharkhand, which contributes a sizable share of coal and metal ores, could see accelerated infrastructure projects if the act’s provisions are implemented effectively. The government has indicated that a portion of mining royalties will be earmarked for community welfare schemes.
The statement comes amid ongoing debates over resource management across India, with several states lobbying for greater fiscal autonomy. The new Mines Act is expected to be tabled in Parliament later this month for final approval.
