An ex-army man used a scooter to breach a Telangana cantonment lock on August 29, stealing 12 weapons including AK rifles and INSAS rifles, and hid them in nearby foliage.
On the night of August 29, a former army personnel entered a Telangana cantonment using a scooter, posing as a member of the same regiment. Investigators say he was able to break the lock on the armoury and remove 12 weapons, including AK assault rifles, INSAS rifles and ammunition.
The ex‑soldier concealed the stolen arms in thick foliage outside the cantonment, using his knowledge of the area to hide the items from patrols. The weapons were later discovered by security forces during a routine sweep.
Police have taken the case under investigation and are tracing the identity of the suspect. The incident has raised concerns about security protocols within army cantonments across the country.
