The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has unveiled a new scheme effective 2026 that promises higher pension payouts for workers in the private sector.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) today announced a new pension scheme that will come into effect in 2026, aimed at boosting retirement benefits for private sector employees.
Under the new framework, EPFO will revise its calculation methodology to provide a higher pension amount to those who have contributed to the provident fund while working in the private sector. The move is part of a broader effort to address the pension gap that many private employees face compared to their public sector counterparts.
The scheme will be rolled out in phases, with the first tranche expected to be operational by the end of 2026. Employees will be required to register their details with EPFO to qualify for the enhanced pension.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Labour and Employment during a press briefing, highlighting the government's commitment to improving financial security for private sector workers.
EPFO officials said that the new scheme will be designed to ensure that pension payouts are more reflective of the contributions made by employees over their careers.
