EPF Salary Ceiling Raised to ₹25,000; 2.25 Lakh New Employees to Join in Ahmedabad

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) has increased its salary ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000, paving the way for more than 2.25 lakh new workers in Ahmedabad to become contributors.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment announced today that the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) will raise its salary ceiling for contribution eligibility from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month. The revision aligns the scheme with rising wage levels and aims to broaden social security coverage.
Under the new threshold, more than 2.25 lakh workers in Ahmedabad are expected to register as EPF contributors. The city, a major industrial hub in Gujarat, has seen a surge in formal employment, prompting the need for an expanded safety net.
The increase is part of a broader effort to encourage formal sector hiring and improve retirement savings for middle‑income earners. By allowing higher‑earning employees to join, the EPF hopes to boost its corpus and provide greater benefits to a larger workforce.
Employers in Ahmedabad will need to update payroll systems to reflect the new ceiling and ensure timely deductions. The change takes effect from the start of the next financial quarter, giving firms a brief adjustment period.
