24‑year‑old Gaurav Jain from Junia village, Kekri, Rajasthan, gave up his engineering job and a Rs 18 lakh annual package to pursue a life of renunciation, marking the step with a Shobhayatra accompanied by a band.

Kekri in Rajasthan witnessed a rare public declaration of renunciation on Saturday when Gaurav Jain, a 24‑year‑old resident of Junia village, abandoned his engineering career and a Rs 18 lakh per‑year salary. The young professional chose to walk the path of vairagya, a traditional Indian concept of detachment from material pursuits.

Jain’s decision was highlighted by a Shobhayatra – a ceremonial procession – that moved through the streets of Kekri accompanied by a marching band. Spectators gathered to watch the procession, which symbolised his commitment to a life of simplicity and spiritual focus.

Friends and local residents reported that Jain had been contemplating the change for several months before formally announcing it during the event. He expressed gratitude for the support received and indicated that he intends to continue his spiritual journey through meditation and community service.

The episode underscores a growing, though still uncommon, trend among young Indians who are opting for spiritual paths over conventional corporate careers, especially in regions where traditional values remain strong.
