The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Bhopal cautioned that fireworks sparks can cause serious eye damage and advised wearing safety glasses and seeking immediate medical help.
Diwali celebrations across India involve extensive use of fireworks, but health officials warn that stray sparks and flying particles can inflict severe ocular injuries. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal highlighted the heightened risk of corneal abrasions, retinal damage and even permanent vision loss during the festival.
AIIMS Bhopal issued a detailed advisory urging the public to wear protective eyewear whenever fireworks are set off, especially for children who are most vulnerable. Parents are asked to supervise any firecracker activity and to refrain from applying home remedies if an eye injury occurs. Instead, they should seek prompt evaluation by an ophthalmologist.
Medical experts note that eye trauma spikes each year around the festive season, and delayed treatment can lead to complications such as infections or scarring. The institute stresses that early professional care dramatically improves recovery prospects, and it discourages reliance on unverified household treatments.
