Workers gathered outside Ladowal Toll Plaza in Ludhiana to protest after authorities declared the toll plaza free, demanding clarity on the decision and its impact on revenue.
Workers from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation assembled outside Ladowal Toll Plaza on Tuesday to protest the recent decision to make the toll plaza free of charge. The protestors, holding placards and chanting slogans, demanded that the authorities explain the rationale behind the move and how it will affect the revenue that funds road maintenance.
The demonstrators expressed concern that the removal of tolls could lead to a loss of funds earmarked for infrastructure projects in the region. They also questioned whether the decision was made without consulting the employees who manage the toll plaza.
Local officials responded by stating that the free status was part of a pilot scheme to reduce traffic congestion and that a detailed report would be released soon. However, the employees insisted on a meeting with the transport department to address their grievances.
The protest is expected to continue until a satisfactory explanation is provided, with workers threatening to strike if their concerns remain unaddressed.
