Eleven villages from Meghalaya will display their living heritage traditions during the Shillong Festival scheduled for November 3‑4.
Shillong, Meghalaya – The upcoming Shillong Festival, set for November 3 and 4, will feature a special showcase by eleven villages from across Meghalaya. Each community will present its unique living heritage, including traditional crafts, music, dance and culinary practices that have been passed down through generations.
The participating villages were selected for their distinct cultural expressions, ranging from bamboo weaving in Jaintia Hills to folk drum ensembles in Garo Hills. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe artisans at work, sample indigenous foods, and engage directly with the custodians of these traditions.
Organisers of the festival say the initiative aims to promote cultural tourism and preserve intangible heritage threatened by modernization. The event is expected to draw both local residents and tourists, providing a platform for the villages to gain wider recognition and economic support.
The heritage showcase will be held at the central grounds of the festival, with scheduled performances and demonstrations spread across the two-day programme. Authorities have coordinated with village councils to ensure authentic representation and logistical support for participants.
