A 130 km/h run by an electric locomotive was successfully completed on a 47‑km stretch of the Indore‑Dahod rail project, marking the first high‑speed trial and also testing a 3‑km tunnel at Pithampur.
The Indore‑Dahod railway corridor witnessed its inaugural high‑speed trial when an electric locomotive was run between Tihi and Dhar at a sustained speed of 130 kilometres per hour. The trial covered a 47‑kilometre section of the newly laid track, demonstrating the line’s capability to handle fast passenger services.
In addition to the speed run, engineers used the same session to assess the performance of a 3‑kilometre long tunnel near Pithampur. The tunnel, a critical component of the project, was subjected to the same high‑speed conditions to verify safety clearances and signalling reliability.
Officials from Indian Railways and the Madhya Pradesh state government hailed the successful trial as a milestone for the region’s connectivity plans. The data collected will inform the final commissioning schedule, with regular passenger operations expected to commence once remaining works are completed.
