Election Commission’s email glitches leave many eligible Goa voters unregistered

The Election Commission of India dispatched eight voter‑verification emails over a span of seven days in an effort to update the electoral roll in Goa. Despite the repeated outreach, many citizens who meet the eligibility criteria are still missing from the final list, raising concerns about the reliability of the electronic verification process.

Officials from the commission acknowledged that the system relies on email confirmations to validate voter details, but technical glitches and outdated contact information have resulted in a substantial number of valid voters not receiving the necessary prompts. As a consequence, these individuals could be disenfranchised in upcoming polls.

Election watchdogs and civil‑society groups have called for an immediate review of the digital registration mechanism, urging the commission to supplement email alerts with alternative methods such as SMS or in‑person verification to ensure comprehensive voter inclusion.
