The Election Commission of India has announced a revision of voter rolls in 17 states, introducing the State Specific Revision (SSR) process to update and clean electoral registers.
The Election Commission of India (EC) has announced a comprehensive revision of voter rolls in 17 states under a new State Specific Revision (SSR) scheme. The SSR process aims to update electoral registers by adding new voters, removing duplicates and correcting errors, thereby improving the accuracy of the rolls.
Unlike the earlier Statewise Identification and Revision (SIR) mechanism, which was limited in scope and often delayed, SSR is designed to be more targeted and time‑bound. The EC will conduct field verification and data cleansing in each state, with the revised rolls expected to be finalized before the next general elections.
State officials will receive detailed guidelines on the SSR methodology, and voters will be notified of any changes to their registration status. The EC has emphasized that the revision will enhance the credibility of the electoral process and ensure that every eligible voter is accurately represented in the rolls.
