The Election Commission of India announced a State‑wise Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls to be carried out in 17 states and union territories, aiming to update voter lists before the next general elections.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notification to conduct State‑wise Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in 17 states and union territories. The SSR aims to remove duplicate entries, update addresses, and add new voters to ensure the accuracy of the voter database.

The commission will work closely with state election commissions to carry out the revision in phases, with the process expected to be completed well before the next general elections. Guidelines on the methodology and timelines will be released shortly.

This move follows previous revisions carried out in 2020 and 2021, which sought to improve the integrity of the electoral rolls. The ECI has emphasized that the SSR will help in reducing electoral fraud and enhancing voter confidence.
