Elderly Man Found Dead in Kangpokpi, Manipur; Residents Call for Shutdown

Kangpokpi district authorities confirmed that the body of an elderly man, reported missing a few days earlier, was found in a remote area of the district on Monday. Police said the discovery was made by local volunteers who were part of a search operation organized after the man's disappearance was reported to the nearest police station.
The missing person, aged in his late seventies, was last seen leaving his home in a nearby village for a routine walk. Neighbors and family members launched an extensive search, involving community members and local officials, but no trace was found until the recent breakthrough.
Following the grim finding, residents of Kangpokpi gathered near the police outpost and called for a shutdown of daily activities to protest what they described as inadequate security and delayed response. Community leaders demanded a thorough investigation and accountability from the authorities.
Police officials have pledged to conduct a forensic examination of the site and have appealed for calm while the investigation proceeds. The district administration has yet to announce any further measures regarding the requested shutdown.
