The government has approved eight railway multi-tracking projects with a total investment of Rs 20,804 crore. The projects aim to enhance rail capacity and reduce congestion on key routes.
The approval covers eight separate multi-tracking initiatives across the Indian Railways network. Multi-tracking involves adding additional parallel tracks to existing lines to allow more trains to operate simultaneously.
Officials said the combined outlay of Rs 20,804 crore will be used for land acquisition, construction of new tracks, signalling upgrades and related infrastructure works.
The move is intended to boost freight and passenger train throughput, alleviate bottlenecks and support the railways' long-term capacity augmentation plan.
