Eight lakh fraud alleged over land registration of 2.27 acres in Chandia, Umaria

A complaint has been lodged in Umaria alleging that Pramod Tiwari and his brothers collected about Rs 8 lakh from Deepak Kumar Barman for registering 2.27 acres of land, but failed to complete the process.
Umaria district police received a formal complaint from resident Deepak Kumar Barman alleging a fraud of approximately Rs 8 lakh. Barman claims he paid the amount to Pramod Tiwari and his brothers with the promise of registering 2.27 acres of land in the village of Chandia, but the registration was never completed.
According to the complaint, the accused collected the money in early 2024 and subsequently failed to submit the necessary documents to the land records office. Barman approached the Sub‑Inspector, demanding the return of his money and the initiation of legal action against the accused.
The police have registered the case under fraud and land‑related offences. Investigators are expected to verify the payment receipts, examine land‑record entries, and question the accused. If sufficient evidence is found, the matter could proceed to the courts for prosecution.
Authorities have urged other land‑deal seekers to exercise caution and verify the credentials of intermediaries before making payments for registration services.
