Eight athletes from Bihar have been named in India’s Under‑18 men’s and women’s squads for the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens 2026 to be held in Qingdao, China, with Rohit and Saloni appointed as captains.

The Asian Rugby Federation has confirmed that eight sportspersons from Bihar will represent India at the Under‑18 Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens 2026, scheduled for September 5‑6 in Qingdao, China. The selection comprises an equal split of four female and four male athletes, reflecting the growing talent pool in the state.

The Indian squads will be led by Rohit and Saloni, who have been entrusted with captaincy duties for the men's and women's teams respectively. Both captains have previously impressed selectors with their leadership in domestic tournaments and are expected to guide the young side through the competitive tournament.

The inclusion of Bihar players underscores the state's recent investment in grassroots rugby programs, which have yielded promising results at national junior championships. Coaches hope the exposure at an international event will further accelerate the development of the sport in the region.

The tournament in Qingdao will feature teams from across Asia, providing a platform for emerging talent to compete at a high level. Indian officials anticipate that the experience gained will bolster the country's long‑term ambitions in rugby sevens ahead of future continental and Olympic qualifiers.
