India's Enforcement Directorate is investigating a $1 million transfer it believes was intended to meddle in the country's internal affairs.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opened a probe into a cross‑border transfer of approximately $1 million, alleging that the funds were meant to influence India's domestic political landscape. Sources familiar with the matter said the agency is tracing the transaction's origin and the beneficiaries to determine whether it violates the country's foreign exchange and money‑laundering laws.

Officials from the ED declined to disclose detailed information, citing the sensitivity of an ongoing investigation. However, they confirmed that the case falls under the agency's mandate to curb illicit financial flows that could affect internal security and governance.

The investigation comes amid heightened scrutiny of foreign funding in Indian political and social spheres. While no arrests have been reported, the ED has reportedly coordinated with other intelligence and financial regulators to map the money trail.

If proven, the alleged attempt to meddle in domestic affairs could lead to severe penalties under the Prevention of Money‑Laundering Act and related statutes. The agency has urged the public and media to refrain from speculation until formal findings are released.
