The Election Commission of India has ordered the annual Summary Revision of electoral rolls to enrol new voters in 17 states and union territories. The directive comes amid ongoing anti‑SIR protests across the country.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a directive to conduct the annual Summary Revision of electoral rolls in 17 states and union territories. This exercise aims to add newly eligible citizens to the voter list and correct any existing discrepancies.

Officials said the SSR process will be carried out according to the prescribed schedule, allowing citizens to apply for inclusion, deletion or correction of details in the electoral rolls. The move is part of the ECI’s routine effort to keep the voter database up‑to‑date before elections.

The order was announced while anti‑SIR protests were taking place in various parts of the country. The ECI clarified that the electoral roll update is unrelated to the protests and is being undertaken as per its annual mandate.
