The Election Commission has prohibited the Trinamool Congress from using its 'two flowers on grass' election symbol and has directed the rival factions to select a new one.

The Election Commission (EC) issued an order concerning the election symbol of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). The directive explicitly bars the party from using the 'two flowers on grass' emblem that has long identified it on ballots and campaign material.

The EC noted that the TMC is currently divided into two competing factions, each claiming to be the legitimate continuation of the party. To avoid confusion among voters, the commission has asked both groups to submit alternative symbols for approval.

Both factions have been given a specific timeframe to propose new emblems, and they must refrain from displaying the prohibited symbol in any electoral communication. The move aims to ensure a clear and fair voting process ahead of upcoming elections.

The decision underscores the EC's role in maintaining electoral clarity, especially when internal party disputes threaten to blur party identities on the ballot paper.
