The inaugural matches of the East Zone ASMITA Fencing League were held today in Takyul, marking the start of the regional competition.
The East Zone ASMITA Fencing League kicked off today in the town of Takyul, signalling the commencement of a new regional fencing circuit. Organized under the ASMITA banner, the league aims to provide a structured platform for fencers from the eastern states to showcase their skills.
Athletes representing various districts gathered at the local sports complex, where the opening bouts were conducted in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Officials from the state sports department attended the ceremony, underscoring the event’s importance for grassroots development of fencing in the region.
The league is scheduled to run over several weeks, with matches rotating among participating venues. Organisers said the tournament will help identify talent for national selection and promote fencing as a competitive sport in the northeast.
Spectators, including school students and local families, filled the stands, reflecting growing interest in the sport. The next round of fixtures is set to take place next weekend, with more teams expected to join the competition.
