On Thursday night, a dumper collided with a group of pilgrims returning from the Mata Bijasana Devi shrine in Budhni, Narmadapuram district, killing a woman and injuring around two dozen others.

A road accident unfolded on Thursday night in Budhni, a town in Madhya Pradesh's Narmadapuram district, when a heavy dumper vehicle struck a crowd of devotees returning from the Mata Bijasana Devi shrine. The vehicle, reportedly losing control on a narrow stretch of road, overturned a trolley carrying the pilgrims, causing a fatality and multiple injuries.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, evacuating the injured to nearby hospitals. Local police confirmed that one woman succumbed to her injuries while roughly two dozen others were treated for fractures, cuts and bruises. Ambulances and rescue teams were deployed promptly, and the injured were taken to the district hospital for further care.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, focusing on vehicle condition, driver fatigue and road safety measures. Police spokesperson said that a thorough check of the dumper's brakes and load will be conducted, and that the road will remain closed until safety clearances are obtained.

The incident occurred as the pilgrims were returning after offering prayers at the shrine dedicated to Mata Bijasana Devi, a local deity revered by many in the region. Community leaders expressed grief and called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations during peak pilgrimage periods.

The district administration urged commuters to exercise caution on rural roads, especially during festive or pilgrimage seasons, and advised that heavy vehicles adhere to speed limits to prevent similar tragedies.
