Following the killing of Parvinder Singh alias Jhota, a drug inspector and a senior police officer have been suspended and the Forensic Science Laboratory has begun a fresh investigation.
The murder of Parvinder Singh, known as Jhota, has remained a focal point of public scrutiny in Punjab. After sustained pressure from the victim's family and civil society, authorities announced the suspension of a senior drug inspector and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) linked to the case.
The suspensions were ordered by the state police hierarchy, citing alleged procedural lapses and possible interference in the ongoing investigation. Both officials have been relieved of their duties pending a detailed internal review.
Concurrently, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been tasked with conducting an independent forensic examination of the crime scene and related evidence. The FSL team will collect samples, re‑analyse ballistic reports and coordinate with the police to ensure a transparent investigative process.
Officials emphasized that the actions aim to restore public confidence and ensure that any misconduct is addressed swiftly. The investigation remains active, and further updates are expected as the forensic analysis progresses.
