Devotees Immersed Ganpati Idol in Satluj Canal, Ludhiana

Ludhiana residents and visitors assembled along the Satluj canal on Saturday to carry out the customary immersion of the Ganpati idol, marking the conclusion of the city's Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. The crowd, estimated to be in the hundreds, moved the clay idol from a makeshift pandal to the water, chanting prayers and singing devotional songs as the statue was gently lowered.
Local authorities coordinated with temple committees to manage the flow of people and ensure safety, deploying police personnel at key entry points and providing basic medical aid. Volunteers helped guide participants, maintain order, and clean the surrounding area after the immersion.
The immersion aligns with the nationwide practice of submerging Ganpati idols in rivers, lakes or canals after ten days of worship, symbolising the deity's return to the divine realm. While the ritual is widely observed, officials in Punjab have repeatedly urged devotees to use eco‑friendly materials for idols to minimise water pollution.
The event concluded without any reported incidents, and the Satluj canal returned to its regular flow after the ceremony.
