Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar visited Beed district to assess the severe drought and directed swift relief actions for affected farmers.
Beed district in Maharashtra is grappling with an acute drought that has depleted water tables and jeopardised crop sowing. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar arrived on the ground to meet local officials, farmers and community leaders, reviewing the extent of the water shortage and its impact on agriculture.
During the visit, Pawar was briefed on the declining groundwater levels, delayed monsoon onset and the rising distress among small and marginal farmers. She emphasized that the state government would accelerate the release of emergency funds, mobilise additional water tankers, and expedite the distribution of drought‑relief kits that include seeds, fertilizers and cash assistance.
The deputy chief minister also instructed district authorities to coordinate with the Maharashtra Water Resources Department to fast‑track borewell repairs and to explore short‑term irrigation solutions such as drip systems. She assured that the state’s drought mitigation plan would be closely monitored to prevent a further escalation of farmer distress.
The visit underscores the government's heightened focus on climate‑induced agricultural challenges in the region, with officials pledging regular updates and swift implementation of relief measures.
