Tamil Nadu reports a sharp rise in dengue infections, prompting the state health department to intensify surveillance and vector‑control measures.

The health department of Tamil Nadu confirmed a significant increase in dengue fever cases over the past weeks, with several districts reporting a surge beyond the seasonal norm. Officials said the upward trend is linked to stagnant water collections that provide breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito.

In response, the state has mobilised additional medical teams, set up fever clinics, and launched a public awareness drive urging residents to eliminate potential mosquito habitats around homes and workplaces. Mosquito control squads are conducting fogging operations in affected localities and distributing larvicidal agents.

The department urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention if they experience high fever, severe headache, joint pain or rash, and to follow preventive measures such as using repellents and installing window screens. Continuous monitoring will be maintained to curb further spread.
