Demand to Reinclude Ganadhala–Somanamaradi Villages in Devadurga Taluk; Petition Submitted to District In-charge Minister

NEED 24 NEWS

Devadurga, October 7: Residents of Ganadhala and Somanamaradi villages have urged the government to reconsider the inclusion of these villages under Arakera taluk and retain them under Devadurga taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.

The villagers submitted a memorandum to Raichur District In-charge Minister Ajay Singh at the Raichur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, highlighting the difficulties faced by residents due to the administrative reorganisation.

During the formation of Arakera taluk, villages under Ganadhala Gram Panchayat—Kamaladinni, Kakkaladdoddi and Ganadhala—and villages under Somanamaradi Gram Panchayat—Somanamaradi, Bogiramana Gunda, Sampatrayanadoddi and Maikaladoddi—were included in Arakera taluk.

The villagers stated that this decision has caused considerable inconvenience in accessing government offices, public services and other administrative facilities.

According to the memorandum, the distance from Arakera taluk headquarters is approximately 45 km from Kamaladinni, 46 km from Kakkaladdoddi, 50 km from Ganadhala, 47 km from Bogiramana Gunda, 45 km from Maikaladoddi, 46 km from Somanamaradi and 51 km from Sampatrayanadoddi.

In contrast, Jalahalli Hobli headquarters is much closer to these villages. Kamaladinni is around 5 km away, Kakkaladdoddi 5.5 km, Ganadhala 9 km, Bogiramana Gunda 7 km, Somanamaradi 6 km, Sampatrayanadoddi 9 km and Maikaladoddi only 4.5 km away.

The villagers pointed out that Jalahalli has several educational institutions, including government and private degree colleges and pre-university colleges. The town also provides better access to healthcare, transportation, business and other public services.

They further stated that retaining the villages under Jalahalli Hobli would greatly benefit rural students seeking higher education and make access to essential services easier for the local population.

Therefore, the villagers demanded that the government examine the relevant provisions of the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993, including Section 4(2)(a), and the applicable provisions of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, and officially retain the above-mentioned villages under Devadurga taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.

They also requested the government to appoint officials to obtain public opinion and, if necessary, visit the concerned villages to assess the ground reality before taking a decision.

Warning of Massive Protest on October 12

The villagers warned that if the government and concerned authorities fail to respond to the memorandum submitted on October 7 within four days, residents of the above-mentioned villages will undertake a padayatra and stage a massive protest in front of the Jalahalli Nadakacheri/Tahsildar’s office on October 12.

On the occasion, advocates Basavaraj of Ganadhala and Vasanth Kumar of Somanamaradi, along with Sabanna Hoogaar, Shantappa Ganadhala, Mounesh Ganadhala, Salman Ganadhala, Nagaraj Ganadhala, Amaregouda Kamaladinni, Sharanagouda Kamaladinni, Sabanna Kamaladinni, Ayyanna Masti, Shivanagouda Desai, Channabasava Maikaladoddi, Nagaraj Maikaladoddi, Ramesh Maikaladoddi, Yallana Gouda and hundreds of residents from the Ganadhala and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayat areas were present.
