# Demand for SC Reservation in Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat Constituencies

**Dalit organisations express anger over lack of political representation since 1992; warn of election boycott if reservation is not provided**

**Devadurga, October 13:** The Devadurga Taluk Committee of the Dalit Organisations’ Federation submitted a memorandum to the Karnataka State Election Commissioner through the Devadurga Tahsildar, demanding appropriate reservation for Scheduled Caste (SC) communities in the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency and the Taluk Panchayat constituencies under its jurisdiction in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district.

### Anger Over Denial of Reservation

Leaders of Dalit organisations expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the SC community had not been provided reservation in the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat constituencies since 1992.

According to the leaders, the Jalahalli constituency has approximately 15,000 to over 20,000 SC voters. Despite this significant voter base, the community has been denied political representation, which they described as unjust.

The federation leaders also alleged that the recently announced reservation list had provided an opportunity for a Scheduled Tribe (ST) woman, while the SC community had not been given an appropriate opportunity to contest the elections.

### Warning of Election Boycott if Reservation Is Not Granted

As the election authorities have given time until October 19, 2026, to submit objections, the federation has demanded a review of the reservation allocation for the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency and the Taluk Panchayat constituencies under its jurisdiction to ensure a fair opportunity for the SC community.

The memorandum warned that if reservation is not provided to the SC community this time as well, voters in the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency and all the Taluk Panchayat constituencies under its jurisdiction will boycott the elections.

On this occasion, M.R.H.S. District President Hanumanthappa Mannapura, Ravi Prakash Akkaraki, Bhutappa Devaramani, Jalahalli Gram Panchayat member Kumar Chappalकी, Balappa Bavimani, Durugesh Bavimani, Basavaraj Jayam, Ramesh Bavimani, Ramesh Bagur, Chandappa Bavimani, Bhimanna Viragota, Shivraj Chappalकी, Mounesh Chappalकी, Bhimanna Anjal, Shantakumar Jambaladinni, Huseinappa Hedderi, Rangappa Togari, Mounesh Kakkaladoddi, Raju Tavaga, and journalists Channappa Bhavani and Venkatesh Mushatalli, along with several other Dalit and political leaders, were present.
